Smart Electric Vehicle Charging with Dynamic Load Management

The need for reliable and efficient charging infrastructure

In our increasingly electrified world, a robust and expanding charging infrastructure is more critical than ever. In the UK, the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) is accelerating rapidly; more than 265,000 electric cars were registered in the UK in 2022, an increase of 40% compared to the previous year.

As the number of electric vehicles on our roads continues to grow, so does the demand for an efficient, reliable power supply and a swift expansion of private and public charging infrastructures. The solution is dynamic load management (DLM).

Why dynamic load management?

Dynamic load management (DLM) is an energy management solution responsible for controlling energy flow in an electricity grid and distributing it to different consumers.

The growing demand from the eMobility market is where dynamic load management demonstrates its true value. This innovative system lies at the heart of smart charging stations. It is the solution to ensuring efficient load distribution across your network, which means that the charging process allows for the intelligent charging of several electric vehicles simultaneously whilst balancing the load between the charge stations. The DLM system also considers loads outside of the charging network to ensure available power is distributed safely and efficiently.

The charge controller is responsible for controlling and monitoring the charging process. The Bender CC613 charge controller, with integrated dynamic load management, has the capacity for more than 250 charging stations to be charged optimally and managed remotely via OCPP or a building management system.

Dynamic load management intelligently coordinates the charging processes, thereby minimising the load on the power grid and making optimal use of existing infrastructure. Many charging park operators are now relying on charging stations with integrated dynamic load management to meet the rising demand and ensure sensible energy distribution while charging.
